Four Golden Rules for Business Writing
The main objective of writing in paragraphs is to arrange different issues, topics, ideas, etc in different separate parts so that reader can understand the theme easily. If we don’t do so, and complete writing without pare, then it will be difficult for the writer to express his/her theme, ideas, messages properly.
The principles of good writing can be summed up by the four key rules:
A. Be Concise – Keep Short and Simple
- Use the fewest words possible.
- Don’t say it again.
- Don’t gild the lily.
- Avoid padding.
B. Be Forceful – Take a Stand
- Don’t dilute your message.
- Don’t say unless you have to.
- Use the active voice.
- Come on strong.
- Avoid vague language.
- Avoid clichés.
- Avoid jargon.
C. Be Correct – Attend to Details
- Make sure subject and verb agree.
- Use pronouns correctly.
- Use parallel construction effectively.
- Put modifier in the right place.
D. Be Polished – Attend to Details
- Use casual speech appropriately.
- Don’t fragment your message.
- Boycott run – on sentence.
- Use commas, semicolons correctly.
